Lamar County Justice Court is a speedy trial court. All criminal cases begin in this court. Felony charges start here because the initial appearance where a person's rights are read, and their bond is set before being sent to Circuit Court is handled here. This court handles all misdemeanor charges, traffic tickets, D.U.I.'s, and fish/game tickets. All affidavits to file a misdemeanor charge are filed and sworn before a Justice Court clerk. Civil cases are filed in Justice Court up to $2500.00. Garnishments, evictions, executions and replevins are also filed in the Civil Court.
