"In an effort to incorporate the tools necessary for success in the 21st Century into the curriculum, Lamar County is committed to securing additional resources which will allow each student to participate in a world class education." Dr. Ben Burnett, Lamar County Superintendent, said.

Students complete a senior exhibition of achievement, a culminating activity to integrate overall learning experiences to connect, make meaning of and efectively use discrete knowledge and skills.

In the 2007-2008 school year, four new elementary schools opened: one each in Sumrall and Purvis and two in the Oak Grove area, providing space for about 3,000 students. Even with these additional classrooms, the district continues to be near capacity.
