With the acquisition of the new "smart pump" technologies from Cardinal Health, Wesley Medical Center nurses and clinicians have the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology at their fingertips.  Smart IV pumps act as an "assistant to the medical staff when administering IV medications at the point of care.  As a healthcare provider enters dosage and infusion rate information in the IV System, the software accesses the health system's drug library and compares the order against a present standard for minimum and maximum doses. Anything above or below the pre-established limits will result in an alert to the clinician.

Cutting Edge Medical Services

Dr. Richard A Conn, orthopedic surgeon with Southern Bone & Joint Specialists, P.A., was the first physician in the United States to perform a hip resurfacing procedure with the Cormet Hip Resurfacing System, since receiving FDA approval, and he performed the procedure at Wesley Medical Center. Dr. Conn has now trained more than 100 physicians from across the U.S. in this procedure.

Campus Environment

Wesley Medical Center is committed to providing comprehensive medical and wellness services to the people they serve. Wesley is now in the last phase of room renovations throughout the hospital, which focused on improved aesthetics and comfort for patients and their families. The boutique atmosphere provides east access to medical officers, a walking track, dining options, test and treatment areas, and comfortable waiting areas.  Renovations are now underway with patient visitor elevators to make them faster and roomier. " We recognize that at typical hospital environment can give patients and their families great apprehension, which is why were are always working on upgrades and services to make their time in our hospital and on our campus very pleasant," said Rodney Gresham, director of Plant Services.

 Wellness and Health Education

Wesley offers a unique wellness aspect to the Pine Belt community. The Institute for Wellness and Sports Medicine (IWSM), located on the campus, is a full-service fitness facility offering fitness classes, cardio equipment, weight training, full-court basketball, racquetball, swimming, biking, nutrition assistance and dance classes. IWSM is connected to the hospital so that patients can easily transition to their faily workouts or rehabilitation sessions. 

IWSM is open to the public and has several membership options.  Wesley also reaches out to the community through health education, health screenings and health fairs.  Wesley's health educators  teach CPR training, babsitting courses and birthing classes along with providing screenings such as blood pressure, cones density and stress levels.

Looking Toward the Future

Wesley Medical Center is already planning for the future by anticipating the growing needs of Hattiesburg and the surrounding areas.  The hospital is planning for a 100-bed addition, which will allow for expanded services while maintaining its quality of care for patients and their families.
